# Directions:

- Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook ziti until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, 3 to 4 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook 1 more minute.
- Add ground beef and Italian sausage to skillet. Cook, breaking up meat, until browned and cooked through, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, optional red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Simmer uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and fresh parsley until well combined.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the prepared baking dish. Layer half of the cooked ziti, half of the ricotta mixture, and half of the meat sauce. Sprinkle with 1 cup mozzarella cheese.
- Add remaining pasta, ricotta mixture, and meat sauce. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
